Professional Service Provider Professional Service Provider Cockroaches can be an unhealthy threat to our everyday lives. They are the most common of all household pests. If neglected, they can be the cause of serious health issues. They carry a range of serious illnesses, including salmonella food poisoning, dysentery, diphtheria, gastroenteritis, and typhoid. Furthermore, cockroaches have been identified as a major source of powerful allergens, often the cause of asthma, allergies, and eczema, especially in urban areas. The health risk is particularly high in homes with children, the elderly, or those fighting illnesses. . They are highly resilient and have developed resistance to several insecticides. A quick response at the very first sign of an infestation is essential to control cockroaches on your property and to stop the spread of this pest to your home. Sign of cockroach infestation: Cockroaches are most active at night, making the cockroach a nocturnal insect. Cockroaches prefer hiding and living in dark, moist areas throughout your house. Areas such as behind your fridge, sink, and other major appliances tend to appeal to cockroaches, and with their ability to flatten their bodies to fit in small areas, cockroaches can also be found within cracks in your walls. PHYSICALLY SEEING A ROACH The most obvious sign you have a roach problem is seeing one. The best time to spot roaches is during the night since they are nocturnal insects. You’ll typically see them scatter after you enter a room and turn on a light. If you spot roaches during the daytime, it can mean the infestation has been going on for some time or that it has progressed to the point where drastic action must be taken immediately. If possible, roaches remain hidden during the day, but overcrowding and a lack of food sources can cause them to brave the daylight to survive. FINDING ROACH EGG CASE (oothecae) Infestations continue to grow because roaches are aggressive breeders. Roaches don’t lay singular eggs – they produce oothecae. Oothecae are oblong, brown casings that house many eggs. When the roach eggs hatch, the oothecae are left behind, providing undeniable evidence roaches have taken a liking to your home and don’t plan to leave on their own. SMELLING ROACHES Finally, Roaches can produce a pungent, musty odor that gets worse the longer the infestation goes on. This oily smell can come from large numbers of roaches, but just one German roach can produce this smell on its own. There are also odors arising from dead roaches as oleic acid is produced during decomposition. Roach odors linger in the air and can even affect the taste of food. ROACHES DROPPINGS Cockroaches leave behind dark droppings that appear the very similar color of ground coffee or black pepper. Type of Common Cockroach Species Found At Home: German cockroach (Blatella Germanica): The German cockroach is the most common cockroach species found worldwide. While German cockroach infestations occur in a variety of human-occupied spaces, they are most often associated with restaurants, food processing facilities, hotels, nursing homes, and other institutional facilities. Kitchens and bathrooms are the main habitats for German roaches. They stay close to water and food sources and find shelter in the warmth of electrical appliances and wiring. Sanitation is the first step in German roach treatments; they eat leftover food in your sink and countertops. German roaches will be around garbage containers and behind kitchen cabinets. Cracks and crevices are their harborage areas; they spend about 75% of their time in such harborages. German cockroach nymphs are smaller than most other cockroaches; thus, they can conceal themselves in many places and remain protected. Brown-banded cockroach (Supella longipalpa): The Brown-Banded Cockroach is often confused with the German cockroach but its habits are different. They are often brought in dwellings in furniture. They may be found throughout the building, especially in high areas such as picture frames and ceilings. They don't require the same moisture resources as the German cockroach, so they are commonly found in furniture, or on the walls and ceilings. They have the nickname of "furniture roach" because they inhabit furniture. They have a preference for high resting places with many eggs deposited on the upper third of the walls. They are not as widely found in the kitchen and bathrooms, as the German Roach, but can be located near refrigerator motors and other major appliances. Adults are very active indoors; the adult males fly when they are disturbed. American Cockroach (Periplaneta americana): The American cockroach is the largest house-infesting cockroach across the country. American Cockroaches are also known as a "water bug" or "palmetto bug. The American roach is reddish-brown, about 1.5 to 2 inches long, winged, but seldom fly. As the American cockroaches mature, they become more reddish-brown in appearance. They are often found around accesses to sewers, near garbage, and sump pumps. Nymphs may be found in dark basements, crawl spaces, floor drains. In basements, they may be found in corner areas high on the walls or in floor drains. The more commonly congregate in open spaces instead of small cracks and crevices. The American cockroach, like most others, will consider anything for its next meal. Foods, feces, and everything in between is fair game for a hungry roach. Anything a roach nibbles on or walks across may become tainted with the bacteria carried by the roach. Unfortunately, you may not know that a roach has been there, which is why surfaces should be cleaned thoroughly and foods never left uncovered. Call Unique Pest Control for a free inspection. Anti Ants Management: Ants are insects with a slender waist, elbowed antennae. Ant is showing a very high level of social organization. Ants can travel in a wide range searching for food, Ants leave a pheromone trail for other ants to follow, following trails they have established and clustering around the source of food, becoming a nuisance in homes, organizations, and businesses. Small piles of earth around holes in the soil and at the base of exterior/interior walls indicate their origin. Meaning more ants are on their way into your home. Ants are incredibly capable and intelligent creatures. Though harmless, they can be a nuisance when they get into your home or business premises. Silverfish: These pests get their name from their silver scales and fish-like appearance. Silverfish are sensitive to moisture and need high levels of humidity to survive, so they're attracted to humid, damp conditions. The presence of silverfish might be a sign that you should check your home for moisture issues. You can find often find silverfish in bathrooms, kitchens, laundry rooms, garages, and cabinets. Silverfish can eat grains in your pantry or chew large holes in upholstery, clothing, stored paper, or wallpaper. They eat a wide variety of foods that have carbohydrates and proteins. They will eat flour, starch, paper, dead insects, glue, paste, cotton, linen, and some synthetic fibers. They eat the glue on the boxes and book bindings.
